The Millport Classic Car Event was born out of Jimmy Newton's love and enthusiasm for old cars.

Having visited Classic shows and events for most of his life, Jimmy decided his beautiful island home would make an ideal location for such an event. He contacted several organisations but it became clear to Jimmy that none were willing to bring their events to the Isle of Cumbrae so he decided to start his own.

May 2014 was his first event, self funded with a little help

from donations from his sons who own local businesses,

the event attracted a lovely crowd who enjoyed the 18 cars

on display and the parade along the promenade.

The car owners enjoyed their time too and were treated to

lunch and refreshments from Jimmy's wife, Eleanor.

We continue this tradition today with free hot drink

vouchers for all car owners at Garrison House Cafe.

Our first event was declared a great success and plans

were put into place for the following year.

2015 saw 38 stunning cars on display in the beautiful grounds of the Garrison on Millports scenic sea front.

The Millport Classic Car event has gone from strength to strength with 2016, locals and visitors were treated to 64 fabulous 'old timers' and prizes were introduced for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed cars.

The winner was treated to a luxury stay for 2 at the Royal George Hotel Millport.

In 2017 the rain did not dampen our spirits and we had a turn out of 70!

2018 was another success with 90 lovingly restored works of wonder on show.

The show continued to grow and was so popular in 2019 we had to cap numbers at 150 cars.

They did not disappoint, a beautiful atmosphere thanks to the lovely owners who are always so happy to share their compelling stories of restorations - mostly fun, with a few bumps in the road of course and a great deal of commitment and passion.

A Millport Classic Car Committee has now been formed and fundraising by our members will help to ensure this family friendly event continues to grow.

If you would like to visit or show off your own automotive legend at this year's event, please do complete the registration form, we will stop taking submissions when we reach capacity.

We do look forward to welcoming you back this year, our date was planned as 8th May but alas, Covid-19 has once again postponed the event and at the moment we are still trying to secure a Saturday in September.  Please watch this space for an update.

A word from our founder Jim Newton..

"Last year, Covid-19 wiped out the UK's classic car show season. Only a handful of shows were able to take place.  This year, thankfully, we are a little more optimistic.

With the vaccination programme under way and mass testing available, we are confident that car enthusiasts will be able to drool (with mask) over some of the most beautiful dream machines in the country

We have to move the event from its usual slot in May to a more hopeful date in September, giving it a greater chance of proceeding unimpeded.

We were determined to secure a date for 2021 and really can't wait to welcome back a host of iconic classics that have weathered the decades so well thanks to the dedication of their owners, I look forward to seeing you all soon".
